Description
A short, leisurely drive west of Colorado Springs, off U.S. Hwy 24, along County Road 96, is the scenic utopia of Eleven Mile Canyon. Sitting between 8,000 and 8,500 feet in elevation, the canyon’s soaring walls of jagged granite tower over the green pine and fir-forested banks of the South Platte River as it churns its way over rocky outcroppings and fallen trees, and meanders through low-lying, grassy meadows filled with wildflowers in the spring. Over time, the river has carved out a powerfully beautiful canyon that runs from the dam at Eleven Mile Reservoir to the small Park County hamlet of Lake George.Eleven Mile Canyon, Lake George Colorado
Elevenmile Canyon is located in Lake George, Colorado and is a renowned recreational area. It is a favorite site for fishing, kayaking, hiking, and bouldering (or rock climbing). The upper portion of the canyon is an ideal trout fishery open to fly fishing or lures only and is a catch and release area.
